A specialist manager focused on generating long-term real returns
Focused on Africa
Africa is a $2.3 trillion economy, equivalent to the 8th largest in the world, and is home to many of the world’s fastest growing economies. Tech adoption and a growing middle class present outstanding investment opportunities.
Focused on Listed Equities
Africa has many dominant public companies, from mobile money and healthcare providers to education and consumer goods. The majority of these are overlooked by the global investment community, which creates attractive investment opportunities.
Concentrated Portfolio
We manage a high conviction portfolio of 10-20 dominant businesses. Our concentrated portfolio enables us to focus on the best investment ideas at any time and provides the opportunity to generate outperformance from our opportunity set.
Disciplined Process
Our investment process is systematic and repeatable. We believe that a disciplined approach to stock selection, valuation, risk management, and portfolio building is critical to generating long-term real returns in inefficient markets.
No Commodities
Commodities come with unique risks in Africa - risks that are rarely in our control or the control of the management teams. Commodities also offer little exposure to the urban growth and demographic trends that are driving African economies.
Outstanding Senior Advisers
Our firm is backed by three outstanding individuals - Miles Morland, John Niepold and Torquil McAlpine. They are an invaluable resource, sharing knowledge, experience and networks developed over many decades of investing across Africa.
