About All Africa Partners

All Africa Partners is a London-based investment management firm focused exclusively on listed equity investments in Africa. The firm, which was founded in 2021 by experienced fund managers Colin Smith and Farouk Miah, manages money on behalf of family offices, endowments and HNWIs. The firm is backed by three of the most experienced Africa institutional investors, each of whom is actively engaged with the firm.

About the Role

The Investment Analyst will be a member of the Investment Team and will work to develop a pipeline of potential investments, analyze companies, propose additions to the portfolio, and monitor investments. The role will include regular travel to Africa for research trips.

 

The role is an opportunity for an Investment Analyst to further their skills and experience as an analyst, and to expand their knowledge and experience of Africa. The Investment Analyst will receive ongoing training, including some external training, and regular advice and guidance from the Partners. Furthermore, the Investment Analyst will gain exposure to three of the most experienced and respected Africa investors.

The Investment Analyst will be joining a small, growing firm and will therefore have a significant and immediate impact on the business. The role also offers direct experience of a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analysing African publicly listed companies in accordance with the firm’s investment process, including:

    • screening of potential investments using Bloomberg, Capital IQ or similar data sources.

    • undertaking quantitative and qualitative research to identify and value the best investment opportunities.

    • building financial models to derive forecast IRR returns for selected stocks.

    • initiating and maintaining company summaries, sustainability analysis and related research.

  • Collecting, collating, analysing, and reporting relevant economic data.

  • Undertaking in-country visits, attending conferences, and arranging calls with management teams and other stakeholders on a regular basis.

  • Taking ultimate responsibility for the active coverage of 10+ companies and preparing investment reports for internal and external use, highlighting analysis and conclusions on companies under coverage.

  • Portfolio management as a member of the Investment Team, including:

    • attending Investment Team meetings

    • participating in decision-making at each step of the investment process, such as valuation, buy, sell and target weight decisions

    • the collection, collation, and analysis of relevant portfolio data.

  • Engaging with investors, service providers and other partners as required, and assisting in preparation of investor reports and associated documents.

 

Candidate Profile

The candidate must be eligible to work in the United Kingdom. There is no relocation package. In addition, the ideal candidate will satisfy most, but not necessarily all, of the requirements below.

 

We strongly encourage those with unconventional backgrounds or experience in other sectors to apply.

 

  • Understanding of financial statements (income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement).

  • Two or more years of financial modelling experience with the ability to produce Excel-based forecasts and valuation models.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrable interest in fundamental, research driven, value-focused investing.

  • Experience and interest in Africa and African listed companies.

  • Experienced with Bloomberg, Refinitiv, Cap IQ or similar data sources and their Excel plug ins.

  • IMC, CFA, MBA, CA, or similar qualification.

  • Fluent in both written and spoken English with a second language (ideally French or Arabic).

  • Process driven, systematic and analytical mind-set.

  • Good time management skills, decisiveness, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a small team.

Selection Process

The successful candidate is likely to meet with All Africa Partners several times, one of which will require a short assignment. The post will stay open until filled.
